Is it possible to write a scientific paper independently as a teenager?

If you do a really good science fair project, and take it seriously, you will have done exactly that. It's not likely to be original research, suitable for publication, but it's a great experience, and it goes a long way toward demonstrating to a university admissions board that you're serious about learning, and about science.
