Reasons why people LOVE San Francisco? (:?

I'm thinking about moving there in a couple of years. (After I graduate high school.) I'm know that people love to boast up their city so why can't San Francisco have it's shot at glory. Perhaps some personal experiences and recommendations? What neighborhoods are good and which are... a little shady? Much thanks!
